Microstructure and Mechanics of Biomaterials
Laboratory of Microscopy

Research

The laboratory studies structures of biomaterials from the nano scale to the macro scale with the use of various microscopic techniques and image analysis. Structure is analysed using various optical techniques, including confocal microscopy (CSLM), which is used for high-quality imaging of cellular structure and for quantitative analysis. For nanoscale analyses, atomic force microscopy (AFM) is used AFM provides the possibility of high resolution imaging and evaluation of mechanical properties at nanoscale can be done with the use of force spectroscopy. Additionally, biochemical imaging is performed with the use of confocal Raman microspectroscopy.
