Abstract : | The aim of the experiments carried out in the years 2013-2015 was to determine the effect of different levels of nitrogen fertilisation on the yield and quality features of tubers of selected new potato cultivars. The study included four edible cultivars: Igor, Jurek, Malaga, Oberon and three starch cultivars: Boryna, Jubilat, Kaszub, grown on a light sandy soil. The organic fertilisation applied was wheat straw and white mustard intercrop. In these experiments 5 levels of mineral nitrogen fertilisation were applied: 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200kgNha–1, and constant doses of phosphorus – 17.5 kgPha–1 and potassium – 99.6kgKha–1, determined on the basis on the levels of those elements in the soil. Significantly the highest tuber yield was achieved at the dose of 100kgNha–1 for cultivars Boryna, Jubilat, Kaszub and Malaga, and 150kgNha–1 for cultivars Igor, Jurek and Oberon. On average for the cultivars, the dose of 100kgNha–1 caused significantly the highest content of starch and dry matter in tubers. Low accumulation of nitrates was obtained for the dose of 150kgNha–1. Irrespective of the nitrogen dose applied, significantly the highest tuber yield was obtained for cultivars Malaga and Jurek. Cultivar Kaszub was characterised by significantly the highest starch content in tubers. The level of nitrogen fertilisation, genetic properties of the cultivars, and the weather conditions in the years had a significant impact on the level of tuber yield obtained and on the analysed quality features of potato tubers. |
