Abstract : | The research material comprised 8 cultivars and lines of naked oat and 14 cultivars and lines of common oat (Avena sativa). Thousand kernel weight, hectolitre weight, husk content and hulled oat content in cultivars and lines of naked oat were measured. The study demonstrated significant cultivar related variation of oat grain in terms of physical properties. Naked oat was characterised by lower thousand grain mass and higher hectolitre weight compared to the common oat. Husk content in common oat fluctuated between 23% and 30%. It was found that naked oat varieties and lines differed from each others during the three years of study. Common oat cultivars Sam, Szakal and Sławko demonstrated appropriate values of investigated physical properties for food production. The study show the need for oriented use of oat grain and further breeding studies aimed at enhancement of traits suitable for the food, fodder and energy generation applications. |
